Lively discussions on recommended books. Books are exchanged. Each member gives a short review of a book they have read during the previous month. The enjoyment of any book is a very personal thing and we often have differing views about the same book. At times these differences lead to lively and enjoyable debate.

Cinema Visits
This group meets once a month on a Tuesday Morning, at Cinema Gold in Havelock North, at 10am for free tea & scones followed by 10.30 Movie. A group of us meet regularly, but we would welcome you to join us.. You are advised what the Film is prior to the day.

Computer Studies
A popular group which covers a wide aspect of computer programs such as Cameras, Digital Photography, and Microsoft Word etc.
Advice is given on Computer security, buying equipment, websites, solving problems and downloading programs and information. Tutorials are emailed to members. The course caters for those with some computer knowledge but even beginners can learn techniques.

Meets every 2 months in conjunction with the Egyptology Association. We Explore the aspects of Ancient Egypt through various media.

Gardens of the World
Members take turns in presenting a description of gardens. So far we have learnt about gardens in

A four month course on where to begin your Genealogy journey. Followed by introduction to the Hastings Library’s vast wealth of data. Where you will learn how to use the facilities available. And perhaps solve the mystery of your Family?

Geography
This is a study of countries- well known and lesser known. Presentations by group members. At the start of this year, members chose countries in which they have an interest and were allocated a date for their presentation. We have two presentations at each meeting and also a short item on a country in the news. We all continue to be amazed at how much there is to learn about the rest of the world.

Gourmet Group:
The group develops its own programme for the year so members have the opportunity of selecting what they want to learn and enjoy. The course is varied and covers recipes for every occasion, course participants share their food/kitchen hints, ideas and best buys throughout Hawkes Bay and there are visits to food businesses.
The group is also traveling the world via food recipes which make for great discoveries, interesting chats and information.

DVD’s of light musicals are shown. We have recently had showings of Andre Rieu,
Carousel, Gentlemen prefer Blondes, Mamma Mia etc. We always have a cup of tea and biscuits which makes for a very friendly group. Space limits the group to a maximum of 14.

This composes of Six Groups which study a wide range of historical artists. Meetings are held every three weeks - mornings and afternoons on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s. Hugh McKay is the tutor. The groups have been running for many years and there is a long waiting list.

A game which is growing in popularity. Play it with your friends. A group of enthusiastic players meet to play the game of Rummikub. We have experienced players and learners, (who are experienced after one afternoon’s play it is that easy to learn!). Tai Chi New for 2010
Tai Chi consists of fluid, gentle, graceful and circular movements that are relaxed and slow in tempo. Breathing is deepened and slowed, aiding visual and mental concentration. Nowadays, Tai Chi is practiced throughout the world for its many health benefits. Tai Chi strengthens and mobilizes joints and muscles, improving physical fitness and mental relaxation. It is especially suitable as a therapy for arthritis because its movements are slow and gentle, and the level of exertion can be adjusted to suit each person’s physical condition. Travel
We have had really interesting talks by Members or their friends often with photos on either TV or lap top.
This year we have been to Patagonia, Italy, The Great Lakes and Waterways of New York State, Spain, France, Russia and have India, China, Portugal and more to come. Also the South Island of NZ.
The preparation can take time but it is always been a happy reminder. Member Participation is essential

Writing for your Grandchildren New for 2010
Write your own stories for your grandchildren. This group will have a maximum of 8 members who must be active participants in this activity.
What do your friends and family really know about your life in the ‘olden days’? The world is changing so rapidly that your children, or grandchildren, cannot even imagine what your life was like when you were their age. You don’t have to be a writer to write your life story – you just have to have lived it. Don’t leave it too late.

We have had really interesting talks by Members or their friends often with photos on either TV or lap top.
This year we have been to Patagonia, Italy, The Great Lakes and Waterways of New York State, Spain, France, Russia and have India, China, Portugal and more to come. Also the South Island of NZ.
The preparation can take time but it is always been a happy reminder. Member Participation is essential

Writing for your Grandchildren New for 2010
Write your own stories for your grandchildren. This group will have a maximum of 8 members who must be active participants in this activity.
What do your friends and family really know about your life in the ‘olden days’? The world is changing so rapidly that your children, or grandchildren, cannot even imagine what your life was like when you were their age. You don’t have to be a writer to write your life story – you just have to have lived it. Don’t leave it too late.
